What is a hysteroscopy?
Hysteroscopy surgery is a small surgery manipulation which is about inserting thin telescopic device (hysteroscope) into the uterine for diagnostic or operative purposes. It means hysteroscope is applied not only for detecting pathologies but to treat them as well.
Who needs hysteroscopy?
Since hysteroscopy is done for both diagnostic and treatment purposes, during this procedure non-cancerous growths such as polyps and myomas which were suspected after ultrasonography might be removed. Also it might help to determine if there are any septums or adhesions and remove them after detection.
What is the role of hysteroscopy in diagnosis and treatment of infertility?
All unwanted formations inside the uterus whether it is polips, myomas or septums must be removed before starting infertility treatment. Otherwise even high quality embryos which were received by applying reproductive techniques will not be able to grow and develop if there are no favorable conditions inside the uterus. The same refers to adhesions. It's necessary to open them with hysteroscope.
In case of patients who had experience of high quality embryo transferring but pregnancy wasn't achieved it's strongly recommended to do hysteroscopy before next try.
